Image
It's important to learn self-defense and if a women is somehow taught differently, then can protect herself and cope up with real-life violence. She will get the right sense of confidence which means she will be prepared for all real crises.  The Myth Of "ONE SIZE FITS ALL" Instructors out there like to boast that their female students are as tough as the males. It's a pride moment of all instructors how much of a beating their ladies can take, and often the ladies cry, bleed, broken but they can't quit mentally. What’s more, they view this as a requirement, a condition for acceptance, that applies to anyone who wants to become part of their tribe or be accepted into their little coterie .   Ignorance on this scale says nothing about the student, but everything about the instructor. Any instructor who intentionally beats on a beginner is a bully, plain and simple. Not only this, pitifully ignorant is what coaching actually means and actually shouldn’t be teaching

Note: these tips can be applied to anyone really, but these are specific to scenarios that have lead to a woman being sexually assaulted. I’ll Start  Krav Maga Training  When I am Fit This is the most common objection we get in Krav Maga when newbies come in to try a class. Just a couple of weeks ago Senior Instructor Kurt had a girl come in and say that word-for-word. If we were to have a dollar for every time we hear that we’d have at least a thousand bucks! Kurt handled this objection differently this time, he said: ‘Look, I’ve heard that a thousand times. Every single person who has told me that has never come back. I don’t mean to be rude, but the mindset is backwards. How much exercise are you doing right now?’. ‘Ummmm, nothing’. ‘Well okay, and can you be 100% sure that you’re about to start exercising so that you can prepare for  Self Defence Classes ? ‘Mmmmmm’. Wanting to get fit first, is backwards. Getting fit is the outcome. As you begin and work up

Rhythms that make your personal defense training erratic. | Krav Maga Systems

Using different rhythms in personal defense training can give you distinct advantages in many different situations. They can help you control the pace of a fight, create opportunities for counters and make you less predictable as a Krav Maga practitioner. In most organisations, students will have to wait until they are at Graduate levels to learn this tactic. We disagree with this wait time, and think it is essential for a student to know at the beginning stages of their learning for the above benefits that it can provide. The following are the four main types of rhythms, with video examples where I show you what they should look like. 1. Natural Rhythm As the name suggests, this rhythm is very natural. Anyone can use it, whether they are trained or untrained. If you’re musically inclined think of it as a ‘full-beat’. Say you’re putting together a punching combo: You throw your jab, and then once you have fully retracted it, you throw out your cross. Once that is fully retracted you wo

Do self-defense for adults classes need to differ for men and women?

Image
There is too much discussion and debate about one common question:  do women need to train in Krav Maga differently than men? However, the shortest answer to this is yes. The rationale behind the answer is that women face different real-life violent experiences and situations than men. This places much impact on the fact that women should be placed and equipped with techniques and tools that can effectively be applied against those threats specifically.  On the other hand, there is also another school of thought that runs simultaneously to this one. Here, people tend to think that training for Krav Maga shouldn’t be different for men and women. The reason being that  self-defense for adults  is still self-defense, whereas crime is still a crime. There is no difference when it comes to facing violence. Most of the women’s self-defense classes will have much gentle implications of the curriculum so that they can learn how to cope up with the violence. In this case, women are given a fa

Mirror Training – at least 15 minutes a day: Yes, you have to look at yourself and get very comfortable doing so. You might need to muster some courage to look at yourself, but be brave. Being able to look at yourself and take what you see seriously is confidence boosting. It all starts with the decision to do it! Make sure to keep good form with your guard up and chin down. Work slowly and fast on different techniques/solutions and get it looking ‘sharp and schmick’ as it should be. Imaginary Krav Maga Training : In your own space, imagine different scenarios in your mind and start physically responding to the problems/situations you’re conjuring up.
